FYIMikhail Kopelman has been appointed professor of violin at the Eastman School of Music, to begin in the 2002-03 academic year. Since 1976, Kopelman has performed in a wide array of venues throughout the world as first violinist with the Tokyo String Quartet (1996-2002) and in that same capacity with the Borodin String Quartet (1976-1996). Kopelman held professorships at Yale University (1996-2002) and at the Moscow Conservatory (1980-1993), where he taught violin and coached chamber music. The Certifying Commission in Medical Management recently designated Thomas McInerny, associate chair for clinical affairs at Golisano Children's Hospital, as a certified physician executive. McInerny is one of only 500 doctors in the nation to have earned the designation. Two local pediatricians were recognized at the annual Pediatric Academic Societies' meeting in Baltimore for efforts to improve children's health through research and teaching. Peter Szilagyi, chief of the division of general pediatrics and chief of pediatric ambulatory services, and Lawrence Nazarian, clinical professor of pediatrics, received the Ambulatory Pediatric Association's National Research Award on May 5. Barry Watkins has joined the staff of the Center for Electronic Imaging Systems in the newly created position of industry liaison. Watkins will specialize in initiating relationships between New York State university researchers and industries to foster the exchange of ideas and talent.
