Institute addresses faith education

Scheduled for July 8-9, the institute will offer workshops and lectures on ways to build effective and supportive relationships between Catholic educators and parents.

All events will be held in Wilson Commons. Registration is $195 ($220 after June 24) for materials, refreshments, luncheons, and parking. To register or for more information, call x5-8270.

MAG comes alive

The Memorial Art Gallery's ninth annual party on the lawn, "Alive at the MAG," takes place Friday, June 28, 5-10 p.m. This year's event features live music by Carpe DM and Uncle Plum and Better Days as well as food and drink vendors. Offered by the Young Friends of MAG, the fundraising event, which draws more than 6,000 people, supports programs and exhibitions at the gallery and Success by Six, a local United Way initiative to prepare children to enter school.

Employee feedback wanted

Human Resources is introducing a new employee survey that will be distributed to a random group of employees on a monthly basis beginning in June. Feedback will allow Human Resources greater access to employee issues and assist in providing information, offering quality programs, and addressing other important matters in a timely fashion. Responses will remain confidential, with completed surveys being returned directly to the survey vendor. Contact Doris Robinson at x3-4644 with questions.

Gallery announces new hours

Beginning on July 11, the Memorial Art Gallery will extend hours to 9 p.m. on Thursdays and close at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays. With the change, Thursday also becomes the gallery's reduced admission night as well as the night for 6:30 tours, "What's Up" lectures, and other evening programs.

The gallery is modifying hours to accommodate a local trend of the Rochester Philharmonic, George Eastman House, Geva Theatre, and others to offer Thursday evening programming. The gallery hopes to participate in what has become Rochester's unofficial "culture night."

Symposium looks at eyesight

The Center for Visual Science at the University, one of the top centers in the world for the complete study of vision from the cornea to the brain, hosted the 23rd CVS Symposium from June 13-15. "Engineering the Eye," the topic of this year's symposium, included presentations of research findings such as how blood vessels in a damaged retina may be repaired, different ways to restore vision to people whose lenses can no longer focus, and ultraprecise methods of imaging the eye to facilitate more precise laser surgery.

Hospital hosts Dutch guests

For the fourth year, nurses from University Hospital of Rotterdam in the Netherlands visited Rochester, shadowing nurses from Golisano Children's Hospital in an effort to better patient care on both sides of the Atlantic. This year's seven-day exchange began on June 3 and included education and research workshops and planning sessions for a joint research project.
