BUILDING A BETTER ROBOT--David Feil-Seifer '03 (left) and Ben Atwood '03 work on final software integration and testing of their robot, Mabel, "The Mobile Table," in preparation for the American Association of Artificial Intelligence's National Conference on Artificial Intelligence held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, July 28 through August 1. Mabel, a 21st-century robotic waitress, can navigate crowded rooms and recognize voices and faces in a group while serving hors d'oeuvres. The Robot Team, which includes seven University students from the computer science department, is the only all-undergraduate team participating in the conference.
