New course covers latest in patient safety

A new certificate program on patient safety is being offered free of charge to University and Strong Health employees and students through the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine.

Targeted to health care professionals, trainees, and students from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, hospital administration, and health services research, the course is designed to highlight the latest trends and theories regarding patient safety.

Sessions will combine presentations with case studies and discussion and will cover many major issues regarding safety such as understanding malpractice, crisis management, the science of medical errors, and more.

An open information session will be held September 5 in the Case Method Room (1-9576). The registration deadline is September 6. Sessions begin September 12 and will be offered twice a month on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Those who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of participation from the School of Medicine and Dentistry. Physicians, dentists, nurses, dental assistants, hygienists, and pharmacists will be eligible for continuing education credits.

For information and registration materials, contact Judy Hughes at x5-7712 or by e-mail at judy_hughes@urmc.rochester.edu.
