9/11 essays, artwork wanted

As part of the Medical Center's commemoration of September 11, the Chaplain's Office is collecting essays, letters, poems, and drawings about how people's lives have changed over the past year in light of the tragedy. The writings and artwork will be posted in the Interfaith Chapel near Miner Library on September 11 as a memorial.

All submissions should not exceed one page and do not require name identification. Mail or drop off items to the Medical Center Chaplain's Office, Room 1-1009, Box 304. The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 9.

Welcome back

The School of Medicine and Dentistry and the School of Nursing will host a reunion weekend for alumni on October 3-5. Faculty, staff, friends, and students are invited. For more information, call Eric or Andrea at x3-2663, or send e-mail to alumni@urmc.rochester.edu.

Wellness center offers classes

The Center for Lifetime Wellness, a joint program between the University and Monroe County Hospital, offers nutrition and fitness classes. Included in the center's fall schedule are two classes that promote health and wellbeing: Small Ball Muscle Stretch and Tension Release, starting September 24, and Ski Fit, starting October 2. Anthony race honors legacy

The Anthony Center for Women's Leadership and the Susan B. Anthony House are sponsoring the third annual Susan B. Anthony Legacy Race: A 5K Run/Walk for Women's Progress sunday, September 22.

The race is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the Anthony House. Team registration and participation is encouraged. Students can register in advance for $10, faculty and staff for $15.

Who done it?

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend "Mumford Manor Murder Mystery," a murder mystery dinner sponsored by Campus Activities Board. Performed by the Repertory Theater of America, the dinner will take place in the Wilson Commons May Room, Friday, September 20 at 6 p.m. Dinner is $10 and includes pasta, salad, dessert, and beverages. Tickets go on sale at the Common Market on September 9.

Research Participants Needed

Women's Health--The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is conducting a research study on biological sisters to examine the effect of birthing on the pelvis. To be eligible, woman must be 45 years or older with a biological sister. One of the sisters must have given birth to at least one child and the other must have never given birth. Participants receive up to two free gynecological exams and payment for participation. Call x3-2996 for more information.

Common Cold--Volunteers with active cold symptoms are needed for a research study of an investigational medication for the common cold. Volunteers must be seen within 24 hours of the beginning of symptoms. The study requires six visits to the clinic. Volunteers must be otherwise healthy and between the ages of 18-70. Compensation for time and travel is available. For more information, call x3-3990.
