Eastman alumni reunite for gala

Students aren't the only musicians returning to the Eastman School of Music this fall. More than 200 graduates are expected to "come home" to Rochester for the school's biennial Alumni Weekend, September 13-15.

Music, education, and entertainment are scheduled for the weekend; highlights include concerts by Eastman's own Ying Quartet and the all-female Cavani Quartet. Mitch Miller '32, a Rochester native who graduated 70 years ago this year from Eastman, returns to his alma mater for a conversation led by Eastman Director James Undercofler and for a presentation ceremony that includes the Eastman Virtuosi. In addition, the award-winning Brentano String Quartet returns to the Kilbourn Hall stage for the first time since 1995 to perform works by Stravinsky, Mozart, Bartok, and Josquin des Prez.

Coinciding with Alumni Weekend, an organ festival, sponsored by the school's organ department, will feature recitals, seminars, exhibits, and demonstrations, many of which are free and open to the Rochester community. For more information, call the organ department at x4-1452.
