Calling jazz fans, bibliophiles
ush Rhees Library will host Le Jazz Hot Club, a birthday bash and gala for Friends of the University of Rochester Libraries and for Rochester Book Fair patrons on Friday, September 20.
Jazz keyboard artist Gap Mangione and his trio will play in Rush Rhees Library from 6 to 8 p.m. The evening of music will also feature the library's new photo exhibition Mid-Century Jazz in Rochester, 1955-1962: Photographic Prints from the Paul Hoeffler Archive, which includes classic portraits of Billie Holiday, and never-seen shots of jazz artists, including Rochester's own Chuck Mangione, at rehearsals, with admiring fans, and in quiet moments of thinking and writing music. The event is open to the public. Tickets start at $20; proceeds benefit the University Libraries. For reservations, call x5-4461. The following day, a book lovers' paradise of 50 exhibitors returns Saturday, September 21, with the 30th annual Rochester Book Fair at St. John Fisher College's Student Life Center. Hosted by the Friends of the University of Rochester Libraries, it is the oldest regional book fair in the United States, including rare and out-of-print books, maps, prints, and other unusual items. Hours for the book fair are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5, but free to members of the Friends and to University students.
