The River Campus Libraries will hold their annual Scare Fair in Rush Rhees Library on Thursday, October 31, from 2:30-5 p.m. Entertainment includes the Mazel Tones, After Hours, the Physics 106 Musicians, and the Strong Jugglers. There will be macabre readings by faculty members, stack stalkings, tower tours, cider, donuts, and a student costume contest.

The Medical Center Athletic Club is offering classes in tai chi, belly dancing, and karate this fall. Tai chi will be offered on Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. beginning November 6 and running for six sessions. Cost is $55 for nonmembers. Belly dancing classes on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. continue through November 12. Open to members and nonmember, the series costs $3 per class. Karate will be offered on Monday nights at 6:15 p.m., open to anyone age 16 or older The cost is $6 per class. For details, call x5-2706.

Swimmers wanted

"Anchorsplash," an annual swimming competition hosted by Delta Gamma sorority to raise funds for the blind and visually impaired, will take place on Saturday, November 10, from 4-7 p.m. in the pool of the Robert B. Goergen Athletic Center. The popular and humorous event pits teams of students and faculty members against each other in events such as sweatshirt relay races, freestyle relays, and synchronized swimming. An information table will be set up from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, October 28, through Thursday, November 7, in the Hirst Lounge of Wilson Commons to accept team registrations. Grant supports MBA students

The William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration has received a $75,000 gift from Staples Inc., a retailer of office products and business services. Staples founder and chairman Thomas Stemberg, in presenting the gift to the Simon School following a roundtable discussion on October 2, said the grant is intended to "help support tomorrow's entrepreneurs by providing scholarships for M.B.A. students in the Simon School's entrepreneurship concentration."

Learn ergonomics basics

Alan Hedge, director of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Laboratory at Cornell University, will present "Office Ergonomics 2002: Risks, Tools, and Programs" on November 1. Hedge will summarize the latest research findings on risk factors for computer-related injuries and effective interventions as well as provide guidelines for effective ergonomics programs. Two sessions will be offered on November 1. The first is from 10-11 a.m. in Wilson Commons, Gowen Room; the second is from 2-3 p.m. at the Medical Center, Class of '62 Auditorium. The event is cosponsored by the Office of Health and Environmental Safety, Genesee Office Interiors, and Human Scale and is open to faculty and staff. Wine tasting supports Strong

Wine lovers may find their next favorite vintage at the second annual "Toast to Your Health" wine tasting and auction benefit for Strong Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 2, at the Bausch & Lomb Winter Garden. Funds will support patient care and purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for the cardiac program at Strong Memorial Hospital.

The event begins at 5 p.m., with a tasting of over 200 wines from around the world, a selection of international hors d'oeuvres, and a silent auction. A five-course, gourmet dinner, prepared by chef Jay Cohen of the Rio Bamba, will be served at 7 p.m. The live wine auction will be conducted during dinner.

Tickets are $50 for the wine-tasting and silent auction or $150 for the entire evening. Call x3-3180 for more details.
