In BriefName that departmentThe Employee Activities Program is changing their name and would like faculty and staff to offer suggestions. A suggestion box will be located in the Strong Memorial Hospital Cashier's Office and the River Campus Customer Service Center/ID Office. Suggestions can also be e-mailed to eap@acs.rochester.edu through November 29. The winning name will be chosen and announced on Friday, December 6, at both locations and on the Web at www.rochester.edu/working/services/auxops/ActivitiesProg1.htm.htm. The winner will receive a University sweatshirt, two Regal Movie tickets, and two Rochester Amerks tickets.
ITS Upgrades Online DirectoryThe University's online faculty, staff, and student directory is being redesigned to allow users to search not only by name but also by telephone number, e-mail address, or department name. Find this improved service soon on the University's home page or at www.rochester.edu/FindPeople. In addition, the 2002-03 Student Directory is scheduled to deliver in early November through Mail & Courier services. The 2002-03 Faculty-Staff Directory also will deliver in the upcoming weeks. Frontier/Citizens Greater Rochester White & Yellow Pages are scheduled to arrive the week of November 18 with Medical Center distribution on November 20. Faculty and staff are encouraged to recycle directories. Recycle bins will be available at the Medical Center loading dock, Goler House parking lot, and at the Gavett/Harkness recycle location.
Looking for child care?The University's Family Care Program furnishes referrals to University and Strong Health employees for child care services and maintains computerized listings of licensed day care centers, registered family day care homes, unregistered child care providers, and University students available to babysit occasional days, evenings, or weekends. Along with these resources, Family Care also provides informational materials to assist employees in the child care selection process. In addition, the program sponsors Vacation Kid's Klub for children ages 5-12, open to employees during spring break, winter break, and 10 weeks in the summer. For more information, call x3-4644.
Facilities offers e-mail serviceWith winter weather just around the corner, faculty and staff can sign up to receive Facilities e-mail notifications. This service provides the latest information regarding road conditions and winter weather forecasts, shutdowns, and emergencies as well as updates on projects affecting University campuses. Subscribers can register for one or all of the three listserves that cover the River Campus and Mt. Hope properties, outlying properties, and the Medical Center. Get immunized!Immunizations for meningococcal meningitis and influenza will be available from 1-7 p.m. Thursday, November 14, in the Friel Lounge of the Susan B. Anthony Residence Halls. The outreach program is open to University students, faculty, and staff. No appointments are necessary. The immunization program is sponsored by University Health Service with VACCESS Health, a company that specializes in direct access immunization programs. The fees are $85 for the meningitis vaccine and $20 for the flu shot. Students can charge the cost to their tuition bill. Payment also can be made by credit card. For details, call x3-5770.
Festival features Polish filmsSeven recent films from Poland--some making their U.S. premiere--will be shown during this year's Polish Film Festival from November 8-14. The festival, sponsored by a grant from the Louis Skalny Foundation and organized by the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies at the University, will be held at the Little Theatre. Students promote deaf awarenessPromoting Awareness in Healthcare, Medical and Deaf, (PAH, MD) a volunteer organization of medical students, deaf and hard of hearing health care recipients, health care providers, medical school faculty, and advocates, is sponsoring the annual Deaf Strong Hospital on Friday, November 15 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the atrium of the Kornberg Building at the School of Medicine and Dentistry. Deaf Strong Hospital is a half-day event in which students interact with deaf people through a series of role-playing exercises, using only American Sign Language to communicate.
