Eastman ensemble to perform five-city tour
With performances in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York--including Eastman's own Kilbourn Hall on November 24 at 8 p.m.--the ensemble will present a wide variety of styles in its tour program that includes both a world and American premiere. On November 21, the ensemble will perform in Stamford, Conn., followed by concerts in Boston and Needham, Mass., on November 22 and in Utica, N.Y., on November 23. The first half of the chorale program will feature works based on texts from Psalms and The Song of Solomon, including Heinrich Schütz's Psalm 116 (1623), a rarely performed piece. The second half of the concert will include the world premiere of Turtle Hymns by Eastman composition student Jon Forshee. Also featured is the American premiere of Consider the Lilies of the Field, a work by Christopher Marshall, one of New Zealand's most prominent composers, who spent the 1996-97 season in residence at the Eastman School. All concerts are free and open to the public; donations will be accepted.
