Greetings from sunny Rochester! We hope you are having a great summer. This fall, the College will continue its tradition of holding Convocation for the entire College community. Convocation will involve all undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff in a Collegewide celebration of our academic and social lives together. The Convocation is scheduled for Friday, September 20, at noon on Dandelion Square. Once again, we will cancel classes from noon to 2 p.m. to facilitate the participation of our entire academic community. We will welcome all of our new students, welcome back our returning students, and celebrate outstanding teaching by presenting the Goergen Awards for excellence in undergraduate teaching. The festivities will include a Collegewide picnic for faculty, students, and staff on the Residential Quad and Dandelion Plaza. The Fall Activities Fair will be on Friday, September 6, from 3 to 5 p.m. on Dandelion Square. Over 120 student clubs and organizations will be showcased. There will be music and live demonstrations by organizations. Come join the fun and learn how you can become involved in campus life. The fair is sponsored by Athletics and Recreation and Wilson Commons Student Activities. Join the University community on Saturday, September 14, for a spiced up Yellowjacket Day. There will be Caribbean music and dancing, food, carnival rides, vendors, games, and a spirit-raising kickoff to the football season--tailgate style. The afternoon festivities will be from 1 to 6 p.m. on the Wilson Commons Lawn, with the football kickoff party from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Susan B. Anthony grove. At 6:30 p.m. a caravan of free University buses will depart for the St. John Fisher campus, where students can cheer on our own football team. In all, these activities will signal the start of the school year, celebrate the return of the College community, and reconnect faculty, students, and staff with one another after the long summer break. We hope you will plan to participate in all three events. May the remainder of your summer be productive and satisfying. We look forward to the beginning of the academic year in the fall.
