Plutzik Series features Salman Rushdie

The fall 2002 Plutzik Memorial Series features novelist Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses, reading from his work at Meliora Weekend, Saturday, October 12, at 3:15 p.m. in Strong Auditorium. Admission is free.

The reading, part of the Department of English's Plutzik Memorial Series, is cosponsored by Wilson Commons/Student Activities Office, the Department of Religion and Classics, the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, the Global Studies Cluster, and the Dean of the College.

The Plutzik Series, one of the oldest and most prestigious continuously running reading series in the country, brings the finest contemporary writers to the University. Other featured speakers for the upcoming season include:

September 25

John Hollander, winner of the Bollingen Prize in Poetry in 1983 and a named fellow of the MacArthur Foundation in 1990, will read from his work at 8 p.m. in the Welles-Brown Room, Rush Rhees Library.

October 16

Clayton Eshleman, whose work has appeared in more than 450 magazines, has published 12 books of poetry. He will read at noon in the Welles-Brown Room, Rush Rhees Library.

October 30

Carl Phillips is the author of six books of poems, most recently Rock Harbor and The Tether, winner of the 2002 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Prize. His reading is at 8 p.m. in the Welles-Brown Room, Rush Rhees Library
