Sports highlights

Football
As a junior last season, John Breedy '03 rushed for more than 100 yards in each of his last three games and led the Yellowjackets in rushing and scoring.

The past year was an exciting one for University athletics:

  • Women's soccer was University Athletic Association champion, posting a perfect 7-0 record and advancing to the NCAA tournament.

  • Women's tennis was Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association champion and advanced to the NCAA championship.

  • Men's tennis was Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association champion.

  • Men's basketball advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four.

  • Women's lacrosse was New York State champion and set a record for most wins in school history.

The Yellowjacket football team launches the 2002 season with three straight road games, followed by five of the next six at home. The Office of Student Activities is organizing bus transportation to the season opener at St. John Fisher on September 14 at 7 p.m., the only evening game on the slate.

Rochester plays at Johns Hopkins on September 21 and at UCAA rival St. Lawrence on September 28. RPI (October 5), Hobart (October 12), and Union (October 19) all come to Fauver for UCAA games starting at 2 p.m. The Yellowjackets open the UAA season at the University of Chicago on October 26.

Rochester hosts Washington on November 2 and Case Western Reserve on November 9 before wrapping up at Carnegie Mellon on November 16.
