Anthony Center 5K run/walkRace celebrates women's rightsThe Anthony Center for Women's Leadership and the Susan B. Anthony House are sponsoring the third annual Susan B. Anthony Legacy Race: a 5K run/walk for women's progress on Sunday, September 22. The 5K walk/run commemorates Susan B. Anthony's historic effort to raise the funds required in order to admit women into the University. "Today American women can attend almost any college and graduate to become doctors, lawyers, businesswomen, and senators," says Nora Bredes, director of the Anthony Center. "Many of Susan B. Anthony's goals have been achieved. But we have yet to realize Anthony's complete dream--women and men leading together, sharing equal power." Each year, the Anthony Center and the Anthony House recognize Anthony's efforts and celebrate the University's commitment to women faculty and students. The race raises funds to restore the house and to continue the efforts of the Anthony Center in promoting women's equality, women's health, and equal access to leadership opportunities. The race is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the Susan B. Anthony House. The race continues east on West Main Street, onto Ford Street, east across the Ford Street Bridge to Wilson Boulevard, and finishes at the University Quadrangle facing the Rush Rhees Library. Team registration and participation for students is encouraged. Students can register in advance $10 ($15 for others); registration on race day is $18. Prizes will be awarded to the first woman and man to cross the finish line. Awards will also go to the top man and woman by age groups and to the top finishing team. For more information, contact the Anthony Center at (585) 275-8799 (x5-8799) or by e-mail bsny@mail.rochester.edu. Information and online registration forms are also available at www.rochester.edu/SBA.
