Fitness club offers spring camp

The Medical Center Athletic Club is hosting Fitness Fun Camp, a New York & certified camp for children ages 7 to 12 years. The camp is open to all University employees and is scheduled for April 14-18, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fee is $30 a day or $130 a week plus an additional $5 registration fee. The camp offers a noncompetitive atmosphere for children and includes activities such as swimming and field trips. Call x5-2706 for more information or visit the athletic club, room G-5681, for a registration packet.

Workshop addresses early literacy

Joy Moss, adjunct associate professor at the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development, will explore literacy in elementary school (grades 4-6) during a three-session workshop for teachers, librarians, and others who work with children.

A key point of the workshop will be how to select literature to engage and inspire thought and discussion. Sponsored by the Warner Center for Professional Development and Education Reform, the workshop is open to the public and will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursdays, March 6, 13, and 20, in the Twelve Corners Middle School library classroom, 2643 Elmwood Ave., in Brighton. The cost is $60; registration is required. For more information, contact Marty Garland at x5-8270 or marty.garland@rochester.edu.

Athletic club sponsors events

The Medical Center Athletic Club is sponsoring a presentation by Theresa Wichtowski, an experienced medical aesthetician, on Wednesday, March 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the LeChase Room, G-9576.

Wichtowski will discuss skin care, scar and stretch mark reduction, dermabrasion, waxing, facials, and aromatherapy. The session is open to the public but may be of special interest to physicians. For more details, call David Mahon at x5-1442.

The Medical Center Athletic Club also is sponsoring staff training sessions on the importance of healthy workplace habits. The sessions provide techniques to improve heart, back, and abdominal health; to reduce risk of injury and illness; and to increase energy and productivity levels. For more information, call x5-2437.

Organ Concert Series continues

After returning from a two-week study trip to Göteborg, Sweden, several students from Eastman School of Music's organ program will perform a variety of genres from different stylistic periods on March 7 at the Irondequoit United Church of Christ, 644 Titus Avenue.

The performance, part of the Eastman Community Organ Concert Series, is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be collected to benefit the Eastman Rochester Organ Initiative--a project to enhance the community's organ collection and to create an international organ study center in the Rochester area. To learn more, visit www.rochester.edu/eastman/organ.
