Simon offers tech transfer concentration

The William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration is offering a new educational opportunity for technology professionals. The degree concentration--an M.S. in business administration with a concentration in technology transfer and commercialization--is designed to teach students with business, marketing, scientific, and technology skills how to commercialize emerging and existing technologies within an organization.

Ronald Hansen, senior associate dean for faculty and research at the Simon School, says the concentration "leverages the Simon School's strength in business education with courses that provide knowledge specific to the commercial development of new technologies."

The concentration, which requires 39 credit hours and may be completed in as little as nine months, combines core business courses taught by Simon School faculty as well as a course in technology transfer and commercialization and a technology commercialization project taught by experts in the University's Office of Technology Transfer.

"The work involves both technical and legal issues, but the core of what I do is business evaluation of technical ideas," says Jack Fraser, senior manager of technology licensing. "The tech transfer courses, in combination with other Simon courses, give you what you need to succeed in a growing, exciting field."
