Neilly lecture profiles book forgers

riter, reviewer and librarian Bruce Whiteman will discuss the manuscript forger Constantine Simonides and other secrets of discovering fake documents on Thursday, March 27, at the University.

In his talk, "The Forger as Male Head Case: Constantine Simonides and Some Other Rogues," Whiteman will discuss literary forgeries, the subject of his latest writing project, at 5 p.m. in the Welles-Brown Room of Rush Rhees Library.

A native of Canada, Whiteman is the author of books and articles on topics from bibliography and printing to book reviews and his own poetry. An avid book collector, he is currently the head librarian at the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library at the University of California at Los Angeles.

Whiteman worked in academic libraries at universities in Canada before moving to UCLA in 1996. Some of his publications include Visible Stars: New and Selected Poems (1995), The Invisible World is in Decline (2000), and he coedited The World from Here: Treasures of the Great Libraries of Los Angeles. He also has researched and written about Canadian literary and publishing history.
