University offers summer science camps
he University's Environmental Health Sciences Center offers a wide range of summer camps for youth of all ages. The programs range in topics from science to medicine and offer students the opportunity to work with researchers and scholars in various fields.
Some of the summer camps scheduled for 2003 include:
- Science Explorations Camp for students currently in grades 6-8 will include two sessions August 4-8 and August 11-15 at the School of Medicine and Dentistry. Each session is limited to 24 students and an application is required. - The Pre-College Experience in Physics for Young Women in High School, hosted by the Department of Physics and Astronomy, will run July 7-August 1 and is open to 9th-and-10th-grade students. - The Summer Science Academy for 40 high school students currently in grades 9-11 will run July 7-25. The program emphasizes microbiology, genetics, and molecular biology; high school biology is a prerequisite. Applications are due by May 1. - The Rochester Scholars program, offered by the Office of the Special Programs, is for students entering grades 9-12 in September. This two-week academic experience, July 21-August 1, offers students an opportunity for in-depth exploration of topics in sciences, social studies, engineering, and humanities.
