In BriefHackers, whackers wantedThe 18th Annual Hackers and Whackers Employee Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, August 5, at Shadow Lake Golf and Racquet Club. The cost of the tournament is $65 and includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner, and prizes. Slots for the tournament fill up quickly and are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Class addresses careless cursivePhysicians, nurses, and others seeking a cure for careless cursive are invited to attend Rochester's first handwriting course for medical professionals. The Medical Center along with the Rochester Health Commission's communitywide Patient Safety Initiative will host the continuing medical education seminar "A Prescription for Handwriting Success" on Thursday, May 15, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Arthur Kornberg Medical Research Building at the Medical Center. Screening targets WTC respondersFinger Lakes Occupational Health Services, a program sponsored by the Department of Environmental Medicine, is providing free, confidential medical screenings for individuals who worked or volunteered in the rescue, recovery, and cleanup efforts at the World Trade Center site after the attacks of September 11, 2001. The goal is to identify and track health conditions of all individuals exposed to the World Trade Center site. The Finger Lakes Occupational Health Services is hoping to screen Red Cross volunteers, labor union workers, local volunteer firefighters and ambulance drivers, or any other volunteers who traveled from upstate New York to assist in the disaster. New nursing courses offeredThe School of Nursing's Community Nursing Center is offering two new courses this May. Principles and Practice of Forensic Nursing begins May 19 and continues through May 24, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The three-hour credit course is designed for registered nurses seeking core-curriculum forensic nursing knowledge. Also offered is Become A Successful Health Care Entrepreneur. The two-day course, which covers the basics of entrepreneurial concepts within the health care industry, is scheduled for May 1-2, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To register for these or other upcoming courses, call Andrea Chamberlain at x5-8832.
