BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE--The Memorial Art Gallery is offering a special promotion to the University community in celebration of the art of American master George Bellows: Buy one gallery admission and get one free through Sunday, June 22. Leaving for the Country: George Bellows at Woodstock, a nationally touring exhibition, features landscapes and portraits from the 1920s by one of the most famous American artist of the day, including Cornfield and Harvest (October 1921), above. May 29--Byrdcliffe: Woodstock's Original Art Colony. Tom Wolf, professor of art history at Bard College, speaks on the Arts & Crafts colony founded in Woodstock, N.Y., in 1903. Free with admission. Auditorium, 7:30 p.m.

May 30, June 6--Preschool Workshop. Children can enjoy an art project, story reading, and gallery tour, all with a unified theme. For ages 2 1/2 to 5 years with adult. Registration fee required. For reservations, call 473-7720, ext. 3056. Creative Workshop, 10:30 a.m. to noon.

June 5--What's Up. Cynthia Culbert, curatorial assistant, discusses View of Venice (1890), a painting by American artist Thomas Moran. Question and answer session follows. New Acquisitions Gallery, 5:30 p.m.

Exhibition Tour--Free with admission. This tour highlights Leaving for the Country: George Bellows at Woodstock. May 30, June 1, 6, 8, 13, 15, 2 p.m.

Through June 7--Creative Workshop Children's Show. This exhibition showcases recent works by young students at the Gallery's Creative Workshop.

Through June 22--Leaving for the Country: George Bellows at Woodstock. Showcases 75 of the American master's paintings from the period between 1920 and 1925.

Through July 6--The Prints of George Bellows: An American Master in Black and White. The exhibition includes a selection of lithographic prints. Lithographs by Bellow's printmaker, Bolton Brown, will also be represented.

Through 2003--New Acquisitions for a New Millennium. Showcases 21 masterworks acquired during the last four years, including the Inner Coffin of Pa-debehu-Aset, an Egyptian official of the fourth century B.C.E.

At Rush Rhees Library

Through May--Mid-Century Jazz in Rochester, 1955-1962: Photographic Prints from the Paul Hoeffler Archive. This collection of almost 100 black-and-white photographs includes portraits of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, and Sonny Rollins. Free and open to the public. Hilfiker Gallery and the Seward Room in the Department of Rare Books, Special Collections and Preservation in Rush Rhees Library.

Through September 30--Writings of Consequence: The Art of John A. Williams. This exhibition displays prime documents from John Williams, author of The Man Who Cried I Am, including correspondence, manuscript notes and drafts, memorabilia, and photographs. Rare Books and Special Collections Library at Rush Rhees Library. Free and open to the public.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

June 11--Color Your World Healthy. A symposium sponsored by the Medical Center Administrator's Group that features information on wellness and other therapies for enhancing health. Tickets required. CPR Classes--Classes are offered by the Office for Educational Resources (OER) from January through June. Registration fee required. All classes held in the OER Department (2-7500 area of the Medical Center). To register, call x5-7666.

May 28, June 5-- Basic Life Support Refresher Course, 5 to 9 p.m.

June 2--Basic Life Support Refresher Course, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

June 11--Basic Life Support Refresher Course, 1 to 5 p.m.

May 31--Childbirth Refresher. This 3 hour "express" class is for expectant parents who have attended childbirth classes within the past 5 years. The course reviews the labor and birth process, hospital stay, special situations such as Cesarean birth, breathing and relaxation techniques, and how to prepare brothers and sisters for the new arrival. Fee: $35/couple. Registration required. 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

May 31--Infant and Child CPR. Training for parents, grandparents, and childcare providers taught by American Red Cross certified instructors. Fee: $40/person. Registration required. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

June 2, 9, 16--Infant Care and Safety. Expectant parents learn the basics of preparing the home and family for a new baby. Class covers newborn care, feeding, keeping baby healthy, and dealing with illness and injury. Fee: $50/couple. Registration required. 7 to 9 p.m.
