Construction kicks into high gear

Warm temperatures, jackhammers, and orange cones--all signs that summer has arrived and that University Facilities and Services is gearing up for another construction and improvement season on the River Campus.

Some of the major projects slated for this year include repaving and crosswalk replacement on Intercampus Drive, expanding Park Lot, and closing Hutchison Patio for roof replacement over Hubbell and Lander Auditoriums.

Work on Intercampus Drive from Trustee Road to Library Road is scheduled to continue through June 23 with paving already completed and resurfacing of crosswalks under way. Portions of Intercampus Drive will be closed during the project and access to some parking lots may be restricted. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to avoid the area when possible.

Work also begins this summer on the second phase of the Park Lot expansion, which will extend the lot to the south and add 49 parking spaces. Scheduled for completion by August 1, work will include the removal of existing soil and installation of a subsurface drainage system, overhead lighting, and asphalt pavement.

Due to a roof replacement project for Hubbell and Lander Auditoriums, Hutchison Plaza is scheduled to be closed through August 1. Crews will remove the existing concrete and brick paving, replace the roof, and install new concrete pavers. Significant noise, dust, and vibration should be expected during concrete removal and a slight tar odor during roofing.

Access to Hutchison and Hylan Halls will be available at the auditorium level or through the Computer Studies Building/Carlson Library entrance for the entire summer, and a temporary sidewalk will be made available from the Wilmot Parking Lot to the Computer Studies Building. Signs and orange fencing are in place to direct pedestrians around the construction area.

In addition to these major projects, other short-term projects are scheduled to continue throughout the summer. To view a list of current projects, visit www.facilities. rochester.edu.
