Fitness Center targets 'total body health'
The Medical Center Fitness and Wellness Center, as its new name implies, will offer programs and services guided by the concept of "total body health," says Director Anita Spoor. "The center is continually developing new programs that offer the University community ways to stay healthy and reduce stress," adds Spoor. A wide selection of programs includes some of the latest trends in the fitness world such as Pilates, body pump, personal training, strength partners (a duo-training concept), and a senior fitness program called Fitness for a Lifetime. Currently, the center has a summer program for children called the Fun Fitness Camp. "This year is our largest enrollment to date," says Spoor. "I'm pleased the camp is at capacity and that the center can be a stable and secure site for children." Over the past six years, the center has increasingly emphasized the "wellness" aspect of fitness, offering massage, reflexology, and polarity therapy services as well as nutrition and weight-loss classes designed to enhance the whole person and encompass the total entity of personal well being. In addition, a nutrition program called Weight No More caters to dieters and busy professionals by providing 1200-calorie-a-day meals that are prepared and delivered five days a week. There is also a nutritionist available for consultation regarding personal calorie and energy needs.
