In BriefSeminar addresses medical ethicsTimothy Quill, professor of medicine, will discuss end-of-life ethical concerns as keynote speaker at a symposium presented by the Finger Lakes BioEthics Consortium. Satcher to discuss researchFormer U. S. Surgeon General David Satcher '72M (Res) will present the Nicole Wan Memorial Lecture at the Medical Center on October 3. His presentation, focusing on current issues affecting research, will be held in Whipple Auditorium (2-6424) from 3 to 4 p.m. Satcher is director of the National Center for Primary Care at the Morehouse School of Medicine. In March 2002, Satcher joined the Medical Center part-time as senior advisor for community health to focus on Project Believe. Master karate, tai chi skillsTraditional Goshin Jutsu Karate classes are offered Monday and Thursday evenings at the Fitness and Wellness Center (Medical Center G-5680). Certified instructor Robin Thoman teaches an individualized class designed to increase confidence and concentration and to emphasize belt promotions. The film charts the ups and downs in the life of complicated and charismatic football great Jim Brown and will be shown at 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, at the Dryden Theater of the George Eastman House, 900 East Ave. Free to University faculty, students, and staff with identification, the screening is the first of the Frederick Douglass Institute's Society and Film Series, which will offer perspectives on African- and African-American life and culture.
