In BriefAuthor reveals 'secrets of success'Jennifer Kushell, a New York Times best-selling author and founder of the Young Entrepreneurs Network, will speak on "Secrets of the Young and Successful: How to Get Everything You Want Without Waiting a Lifetime" Thursday, October 23, at 5:30 p.m. in Wilson Commons. Kushell has worked with thousands of young professionals to help them set and meet goals. Following the presentation, attendees will be invited to participate in a networking group exercise. The $25 registration fee is reduced to $5 for University students and $15 for University faculty and staff. Med Center hosts charity auctionDonations are being accepted for the third annual Charity Art Auction. Proceeds benefit Alternatives for Battered Women, an organization that helps women in abusive relationships find a safe place to stay, legal assistance, education, or other needed resources. The auction will be held on Friday, October 17, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will showcase items made by medical students. The event will also include children's entertainment. Community members are encouraged to donate arts/crafts items, baked goods, and other handmade items or to volunteer as event organizers. Research participants neededDental Implants--Researchers in the Department of Dentistry are conducting a study to determine the effectiveness of two preimplant dental procedures. Participants must be 18 years or older and require a single-tooth implant. Volunteers will be asked to complete two follow-up appointments. The first appointment will be scheduled for one month after completion of the implant restoration, and the second appointment will be scheduled for one year after the implant restoration. Volunteers will receive payment for participation but are responsible for cost of the implant procedure. Those interested can schedule a 15-minute screening to determine if they qualify.
