In BriefEvent targets expectant mothers"Mothering the Mother," an information session exploring childbearing resources in the Rochester area, will take place Saturday, November 15, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Helen Wood Hall. Sponsored by the Student Nurses Association, the event will offer information and lectures on nutrition, prenatal yoga, breast-feeding, homebirth, doulas, midwives, and more. Beginners welcome to try karateThe Medical Center Fitness and Wellness Center is offering an introductory course in Goshin Jutsu Karate. The beginner class starts November 13 and continues through December 18. The class will meet on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Cost is $25 and preregistration is required. Go treasure huntingThe Gallery Council of the Memorial Art Gallery is planning its seventh annual Tuesday's Treasures sale November 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the gallery's M&T Bank Ballroom. Browse and buy gently used antiques, artworks, porcelain, china, crystal, silver, and fine linens. Admission is free. All sales benefit the gallery.

Pick up a PoinsettiaThe James P. Wilmot Cancer Center is partnering with Blanchard Florist to sell red poinsettias and assorted cyclamen plants for the holidays. The plants are $10 each. Orders will be taken on November 7 and November 21 at the House of Six Nations Cafeteria, MRB Café, and Courtyard Café. Order forms also may be faxed to 461-5351, and orders can also be made by phone at x5-6292 or x5-5199. Checks should be made payable to James P. Wilmot Cancer Center and mailed to the center's Development Office, RC 278996. Proceeds benefit patient care and cancer research at the center. Plants are scheduled for delivery Thursday, December 4, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Wilmot Cancer Center's Library (G3071), Crittenden Boulevard entrance. Coupon books on saleThe Student Nurses Association (SNA) will be selling entertainment books November 7 outside the Medical Center Bookstore. The books are $22 and offer savings for theaters, restaurants, hotels, car rentals, and golfing. Proceeds benefit SNA class functions.
Research participants neededCleft lip/palate--Researchers at the School of Medicine and Dentistry and Eastman Dental Center are currently looking for patients with isolated cleft lip and/or palate. The study will involve taking family and medical histories, a dental examination, photographs, X-ray studies, and a blood draw for genetic studies. Men, women, and children ages 6 and over with cleft lip and/or palate are eligible. Some family members of these individuals also are eligible to participate. Study participants will be paid.
