Sue Cimbalo, senior coordinator for the Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network, has been re-elected to the board of directors of the American Board for Transplant Certification. The independent, nonprofit organization develops and monitors professional credentialing for procurement and transplant coordinators.

Fredrick Harris, associate professor of political science and director of the Center for the Study of African-American Politics, has been selected as a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. His work for the 2003-04 year will examine the murder of 14-year-old Emmett Till in 1955 and its role in the collective action taken by African-Americans in the early stages of the civil rights movement.

Gail Ingersoll, director of clinical nursing research, and Madeline Schmitt, professor of nursing, coauthored a commissioned paper for the Institute of Medicine's recent report, Keeping Patients Safe: Transforming the Work Environment for Nurses. The paper, which summarizes the effect of interdisciplinary collaboration and team functioning on medical errors, serves as the primary source for a chapter in the report and is one of the two papers included as an attachment.

Cathy Peters, a nurse practitioner in consultation-liaison psychiatry and clinical faculty member in the School of Nursing and the Division of Medical Humanities, was selected to receive an international media award on November 2, in Toronto. "The award recognizes creative individuals who have achieved excellence in communicating the rich and diverse history of nursing and who promote a positive image of the profession," says Peters.
