This exhibition features a collection of works by modern masters such as Picasso, Chagall, and Kandinsky hanging side by side with old favorites such as Corot and Renoir. Through January 4--Rembrandt's World: Prints and Drawings from the Dutch Golden Age. This exhibition examines the richness of Dutch culture during the 17th century through landscapes, portraits, religious images, and scenes of daily life. Included are prints and drawings from the permanent collection by such masters as Rembrandt, Adriaen, von Ostade, and Ferdinand Bol. January 16 through March 14--Fields and Falls: Images of Rochester. This exhibition depicts Rochester's agricultural resources and waterways that turned a once small settlement into a dynamic crossroads. Through 2003--Protected for Eternity: The Coffins of Pa-debehu-Aset. This exhibition showcases the lavishly decorated inner coffin of an Egyptian official of the fourth century B.C.E. and other ancient artifacts. Through 2003--New Acquisitions for a New Millennium. A collection of color photographic studies of large rocks found in prehistoric monuments by Rochester native James Via. Hartnett Gallery, Wilson Commons. Through December 31--Images: Recent Developments by President Thomas H. Jackson. This exhibition, composed of 36 color photographs by President Jackson, marks the introduction of President Jackson's photographic work into the public eye. This exhibition examines how elements of Frederick Law Olmsted's vision manifested themselves in the Rochester Parks and how the people of Rochester brought his vision to fruition. Great Hall of Rush Rhees Library. Through February 27--Frozen in Time: Herman LeRoy Fairchild's Photographic Record of Rochester's Geologic Past. The exhibition examines Herman LeRoy Fairchild's achievements as a glacial geologist through his writings, maps, and photographs. Department of Rare Book and Special Collections, Rush Rhees Library. December 13: 1 to 4 p.m.; January 3: 9 a.m. to noon. December 15--Infant Care and Safety. Expectant parents learn the basics of preparing the home and family for a new baby. This three-hour "express" class is for expectant parents who have attended childbirth classes within the past five years. The course reviews the labor and birth process, hospital stay, special situations such as Cesarean birth, breathing and relaxation techniques, and how to prepare brothers and sisters for the new arrival. Fee: $35/couple. Registration required. 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. January 5--Pregnancy 101. This program explores the first six months of pregnancy and how to prepare the home and family for the new baby. Fee: $20/couple. Registration required. 7 to 9 p.m. January 5-31--Childbirth Classes. Classes focus on the process of labor, birth, and postpartum; breathing and relaxation techniques; the hospital stay; special situations such as Cesarean birth; and a tour of the Family Maternity Center. Monday through Friday, 7 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 1 to 3 p.m. January 8, 17--Big Brothers- and Sisters-to-Be Class. The "ins and outs" of being a big brother or sister are covered in this class for expectant siblings and their parents. Fee: $15/couple. Registration required.
