In BriefWomen's Club meets March 25The March meeting of the University Women's Club will be a docent-led tour of the new exhibition The Career and Times of Rochester's Frederick Douglass at the Rochester Museum and Science Center on Thursday, March 25, at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow at noon in the ballroom of the Eisenhart building. Staff honored for serviceStaff members who have worked for the University for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 years by June 30 have been sent a gift selection card and brochure. Any staff members who think they are eligible for such a gift and who have not received a card should contact Doris Robinson in Human Resources at x3-4644. All cards must be returned by April 5.
Talk addresses health care reformFaculty and staff are invited to attend a debate/discussion regarding health care reform on Monday, April 5, at 7 p.m. at the Rochester Academy of Medicine, 1441 East Avenue. Two of the nation's leading health policy experts--Steffie Woolhandler, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and founding member of Physicians for a National Health Program, and William Dolan, former president of the Medical Society of the State of New York--are scheduled to speak at the event. Organized by members of the University's American Medical Association-Medical Student Section and the American Medical Student Association, the event is cosponsored by Interfaith Health Alliance, Greater Rochester Community of Churches, and Downtown Community Forum. Young scholars wantedThe Office of Special Programs and Part-time Studies encourages faculty, staff, and alumni to register their children to take classes with fellow faculty members and doctoral candidates through Rochester Scholars, a noncredit, precollege academic program for middle- and high-school students. Children and grandchildren of University employees and alumni are eligible for tuition discounts. Course topics include medicine, communications, economics, research, philosophy, engineering, dance, drama, art, writing, physics, astronomy, and entrepreneurship.
