RE: 2004 United Way Campaign

Jackson
Jackson

In 2003, thousands of University faculty, staff, and retirees pledged over $901,000 to support 200 United Way agencies, which collectively serve the needs of over 825,000 people annually throughout the region. In addition, through "donor designation," United Way provides supplemental funding to 300 other organizations meeting needs of our communities. Included are a number of programs at the University and Medical Center.

The United Way has made a special effort to fill the gap stemming from recent cuts in government funding to many of their agencies. This year the University's campaign will invigorate our partnership with United Way in the maintenance of a robust social safety net for those in our community with special needs.

If you have not already, you will soon receive your 2004 United Way pledge form. I encourage you to give generously this year. Every dollar you pledge goes to meet community needs. There is no overhead or fund-raising expense charged against your pledge.

I personally believe that each of us has a responsibility to support United Way to the full extent of our ability for the benefit of our community and our institution.
