Ceremony celebrates Simon dean

Mark Zupan officially became the sixth dean of the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Admin-istration during investiture ceremonies on April 1 in the Interfaith Chapel. Zupan, former dean of the Eller College of Business and Public Administration at the University of Arizona, began his leadership of the Simon School on January 1.

"The Simon School is blessed--as is the University--to have as its new dean an individual who has already demonstrated the capacity for inspired and inspiring leadership --appropriate for a school that, although relatively young in years, is rich with innovation and inspiration of its own in the world of business schools," said President Jackson, who presided over the ceremony.

Robert Eckert, chairman and CEO of Mattel, delivered an address and received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. "Living up to its motto of making thinkers into leaders," Eckert said, "the Simon School has proven that it appreciates the art of leadership by installing a truly great leader, Mark Zupan, as its dean."

In his inaugural address, Zupan, who is responsible for the administrative and academic functions of the school, underscored his commitment to making this "great business school even better." Zupan added, "The Simon school can take richly deserved pride in its wonderful history and accomplishments to date. I am deeply honored to be joining the School and look forward to working with the faculty, staff, students, alums, and friends of Simon for the purpose of building an even brighter future."
