ABCs OF PROPAGANDA--In the 1930s, the Soviet government launched coordinated political and social campaigns to fight illiteracy, eradicate religious beliefs, and promote cooperative work and industrialization. Artist Mikhail Cheremnykh was commissioned to design "The Anti-Religious Alphabet," a portfolio of flashcards that illustrated the alphabet for schoolchildren while teaching them to be ideal "moral citizens." The Letter K: Blacksmith, Beat the Bells into Ballbearings (above) is one of 27 rare color lithographs from the series featured in the Memorial Art Gallery exhibition Literacy for Little Comrades: The Anti-Religious Alphabet, on view through June 6.

Through June 17--Seamingly. Features a series of color photographs and fabric sculptures by Rachel Siegel, inspired by one pink 1960s party dress. The Gallery at the Art & Music Library, Rush Rhees Library.

Through September 15--Friendship in Bloom: Four Centuries of Floral Images to Celebrate the Iris Friendship Garden in Highland Park. June 5, 12--Infant Care and Safety: Classes One and Two. Expectant parents learn the basics of preparing the home and family for a new baby. Fee: $50/couple for three-week mini-series. Registration required. 1 to 3 p.m.

June 12--Childbirth Refresher. This three-hour "express" class is for expectant parents who have attended childbirth classes within the past five years. The course reviews the labor and birth process, hospital stay, special situations such as Cesarean birth, breathing and relaxation techniques, and how to prepare brothers and sisters for the new arrival. Fee: $35/couple. Registration required. 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
