MAGNETIC EVENT--A 29,000 lb. magnet, the heart one of the most powerful magnetic resonance imaging systems in the world, arrives at its new home at the new Rochester Center for Brain Imaging on May 18. The 3.0 Tesla magnet--twice the strength of those in standard MRI machines--will be usedprimarily for research on how the human brain works. It will also serve an important training function for undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows as they learn how to use the MRI as a research tool. The new center will be directed by Richard Aslin, professor of brain and cognitive sciences (see related story).
