Team wins spot in NYC race
team of runners from the Medical Center earned a spot in the October Chase Corporate Challenge Championship in New York City after winning the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge run on May 27.
It may have been raining that Thursday evening, but that didn't stop nearly 10,000 Rochesterians, including many from the University, from competing in the race. More than 300 faculty and staff ran or walked the 3 1/2-mile course on the Rochester Institute of Technology's campus. The Medical Center team made a great showing: Microbiology researcher Laura Bloedorn came in first in the women's division, with a time of 19:42, and anesthesiologist Duncan Douglas came in fourth in the men's division, with a time of 18:00. Overall, the University captured both the men's and women's team titles--a first for the University--which won them the spot in the championship race. Along with Bloedorn and Douglas, team members included Rachel Delavan, Lucinda Rettke, Karen Kryder, Craig Lefort, Carl Johnston, and Alec O'Connor. "Although everyone got a little wet, there was an amazing rainbow at the end of it all. The fact that the University had such great runners this year, to win both the men's and the women's titles, is something we're ecstatic about," Heather VanOrden of the Medical Center's Fitness and Wellness Center says.
