Ronald Epstein, professor of Family Medicine and Psychiatry at the Medical Center and director of the University's Center to Improve Communications in Health Care, has won a Fulbright Senior Specialist grant in public/global health at the University of Cordoba for his research into improving physician practice style.

Lucia French, associate professor at the Warner School and principal investigator of the early childhood curriculum Science-Start!, and Kathy Canezio, Warner doctoral student and research associate for ScienceStart!, were invited to the PBS television show Sesame Street to work with the screenwriters to advise them on teaching science to preschoolers. French and Canezio are the authors of the curriculum.

Wendy Nilsen of the Department of Psychiatry and the Wynne Center for Family Research, in conjunction with the foster care program of the Monroe County Department of Human and Health Services, has been awarded a $99,000 grant from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services to prevent child abuse and will fund a specialized training program for foster parents.

Jeffrey Peters has been named chair of the Department of Surgery, Seymour I. Schwartz Professor of Surgery at the Medical Center, and surgeon-in-chief of Strong Memorial Hospital. Peters's appointment will begin July 1.
