July 8, 2 p.m.; July 15, 22, 6:30 p.m. July 11 through September 5--Rochester Biennial. This exhibition showcases artists who live and work in upstate New York. Participating artists include Joy Adams of Trumansburg (painting), Anne Currier of Alfred (ceramics), Judith Olson Gregory of Rochester (mixed media), Larry Kagan of Troy (shadow sculpture), John McQueen of Saratoga Springs (fiber), and Karen Sardisco of Rochester (drawing). Through 2004--Protected for Eternity: The Coffins of Pa-debehu-Aset. Showcases the lavishly decorated inner coffin of an Egyptian official of the fourth century B.C.E. and other ancient artifacts. Through August 29--Pompelmous, Surinam and Centaurea Cyanus: Botanical Prints from the Collection of Jacquelyn and William Pinch. This exhibition showcases 17th- and 18th-century engravings from some of the most famous botanists in Germany, England, and Holland. The 40 works include prints from early issues of The Botanical Magazine, which began publishing in 1787. The exhibition is one of a number of floral-themed events which celebrate the sister-city alliance between Rochester and Hamamatsu, Japan. River Campus Through September 15--Friendship in Bloom: Four Centuries of Floral Images to Celebrate the Iris Friendship Garden in Highland Park. Fee: $50/couple for three-week mini-series or $20 per individual class. Registration required. 7 to 9 p.m. July 17--Childbirth Refresher. This three-hour "express" class is for expectant parents who have attended childbirth classes within the past five years. The course reviews the labor and birth process, hospital stay, special situations such as Cesarean birth, breathing and relaxation techniques, and how to prepare brothers and sisters for the new arrival. Fee: $35/couple. Registration required. 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 17--VBAC: Vaginal Birth after Cesarean. The class deals with the specific needs and concerns of expectant parents whose previous experience was a Cesarean birth and who want to prepare for a vaginal birth. Fee: $15/couple. Registration required. 1 to 2 p.m. July 24--Big Brothers- and Sisters-to-Be Class.
