TEACHERS GIVE A TOOT--Richard Grunow, chair of the music education department and professor of music education at the Eastman School, directs teachers on recorders in the class "Theory and Practice of Integrating Music in the Elementary Classroom." In the two-week-long course, presented by Sonia James-Wilson, assistant professor of teaching and curriculum and curriculum development at the Warner School, teachers spent one week at the Eastman School learning about music and movement, and one week at the Memorial Art Gallery learning about visual arts. The course is intended to show teachers how to introduce music into their elementary classrooms to help students analyze, synthesize, and evaluate ideas.
Currents publishes every two weeks throughout the year and every three weeks from June to August. The next issue, which publishes on Tuesday, September 7, marks the return to the biweekly schedule. Deadline for submissions is noon, Monday, August 30.
