Unethical behavior? Call the hotline

In order to maintain ethical standards at the University, individuals must report suspicious behavior that may jeopardize the integrity of the institution, such as noncompliance with laws and regulations, violations of professional standards of practice or of business ethics, conflicts of interest, research fraud, or a breach of patient confidentiality.

Reports of suspected violations may be made confidentially, and even anonymously, through the University/Strong Health Integrity Hotline (756-8888), although the more information given, the easier it is to investigate the reports. (The University will take all appropriate steps to ensure the level of confidentiality desired, but sometimes the institution's legal obligations to investigate or address a violation will override the individual's wish for confidentiality.)

The hotline augments other channels for such reports, including an individual's supervisor, and such offices as University Audit, University Counsel, Human Resources, Security, Environmental Health and Safety, and University Intercessors.

The University's complete Code of Conduct for Business Activities is available online at www.rochester.edu/working/codeofconduct. Further, a list of resources to help employees resolve problems at work is available at www.rochester.edu/working/resolving/index.html.
