RE: Update on Flu Vaccine Clinics

As you have undoubtedly heard in the last week, the nation is in the midst of a flu vaccine shortage. As a result of this shortage, we must cancel all flu vaccine clinics planned for employees and spouses throughout the University and the Medical Center.

By canceling flu clinics, we are adhering to the new guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control to ensure that all available flu vaccine within the community is funneled to those at highest risk and in need of a flu vaccine.

While the situation is fluid, and could change from day to day, we are fairly certain that there will be clinics scheduled to vaccinate some of our health care workers who provide direct, hands-on care to patients. We are currently developing a plan to vaccinate as many direct-care staff as possible, given the new guidelines and available vaccine. If you are a health care worker, look for more information about flu clinics from your immediate supervisor within the next month.

If you believe you fall into one of the high-risk categories outlined by the CDC, we recommend that you immediately contact your primary care physician to schedule a vaccination.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
