RE: Presidential Search
As the University knows, we are now at the very successful conclusion of a careful and thorough search for our 10th president. I was very pleased to see how enthusiastically Joel Seligman was welcomed to our campus during the past week.
Dean Seligman has significantly and visibly improved, academically and financially, each institution he has led, and we expect that he will help Rochester build on its current reputation as one of a small group of the finest research universities in the nation. Dean Seligman's own accomplishments as a legal scholar will further enhance the University's national reputation, and his enthusiastic embrace of the opportunities and responsibilities of leading the University will further solidify the significant role which it plays in the economic and cultural life of the Rochester community, and the academic life of our nation.
I offer my sincere personal thanks to everyone who has advised the trustees during this important process. In particular, I would like to thank all of those who directly aided our efforts by serving on the University Advisory Committee, Student Advisory Group, and Staff Advisory Group. All of these individuals took very seriously their responsibility to consider candidates on behalf of the entire University, and to inform the candidates of our outstanding accomplishments and great potential.
Again, my thanks to everyone who has helped to make the presidential search a success.
