Distinguished poets give readings

Rita Dove

MbiraTake part in the literary tradition of the Plutzik Memorial Series, one of the country's oldest and most prestigious literary reading programs. Administered by the Department of English, the series will include presentations by two poets this fall.

October 9: Rita Dove, Pulitzer Prize winner, Poet Laureate of the United States from 1993 to 1995, and Commonwealth Professor of English at the University of Virginia, will read from her work as part of Meliora Weekend. Her poetry collections include Grace Notes, Mother Love, and On the Bus with Rosa Parks.

November 3: Donald Revel, winner of the 1995 Gertrude Stein Award in Innovative American Poetry and professor of English and director of creative writing at the University of Utah, will give a reading of his poetry. He has published eight collections of poems, including My Mojave, Arcady, There Are Three, Beautiful Shirt, and Erasures.

All readings in the Plutzik Series, which was established to honor the work of the late Hyam Plutzik, a distinguished poet and Deane Professor of Poetry and Rhetoric at the University, are free and open to the public.
