Tea and talk

A series of lectures by members of the University and Rochester communities, Tea Talks are held in the Welles-Brown Room on Sundays at 2 p.m. Refreshments are served.

October 24: William Scott Green, professor of religion, Philip S. Bernstein Professor of Judaic Studies, and Dean of the College--"Our Future Is in Ruins," highlights of the University archaeological excavations in Italy and Israel.

November 21: Grant Holcomb, director of the Memorial Art Gallery--"From Rochester to the Rhine: The Journey of 'Billy Pilgrim,'" an examination of the life of Rochester native Edward J. Crone Jr., who died in a German prison camp in 1945. Crone was the inspiration for the character of Billy Pilgrim in Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s novel Slaughterhouse Five.

January 16: Alfred Clark, professor of mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, and mathematics--"From Slide Rule to Laptop," the evolution of computational tools.

February 6: John H. Thomas, professor of mechanical and aerospace sciences and astronomy--a discussion of the Sun as the source of nearly all the energy that sustains life on Earth.

March 20: Kenneth Cauthen, the John Price Crozer Griffith Emeritus Professor of Theology at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School--a discussion of his book I Don't Care What the Bible Says: An Interpretation of the South.
