New ranking places Simon in top 30
Based on alumni recommendations, Financial Times lists the Simon School 4th in the world for both finance and managerial economics, and 9th among North American business schools for the salary increase associated with earning an M.B.A. degree. "This international recognition by the Financial Times affirms our ongoing efforts toward continuous improvement," says Simon School Dean Mark Zupan. "We will remain focused on providing our students with the highest quality management education and career opportunities possible and promoting an environment which fosters the creation and dissemination of useful new management knowledge." Business schools are ranked by the publication annually according to the career progression accrued from the M.B.A., diversity, and research. Placement statistics (such as salary percentage increase and weighted salaries) account for 55 percent of the overall rankings. Measures of the diversity of schools' students, faculty, and board members account for 25 percent of the overall ranking. Faculty publications in 40 internationally refereed journals account for the remaining 20 percent of the overall ranking. The annual survey, which is described by the Financial Times as "a comprehensive assessment of the value of an M.B.A. and the schools that offer them," was based this year on information collected from 147 business schools and their Class of 2001 graduates.
