Ushers neededThe Commencement Committee is looking for staff and students to participate as ushers in the College Commencement ceremony on May 15. Ushers assist with final preparations, greet families and friends, distribute ceremony programs, assist guests to special seating areas, provide directions, and answer questions. Give blood April 13A University blood drive for the American Red Cross will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in the May Room of Wilson Commons. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate in the drive, which is organized by the University fraternity and sorority communities and by the Office of the Dean of Students in the College. Appointments are preferred and can be made by contacting Jason at x5-4085 or by visiting www.rochester.edu/student-srvcs/DOS/giveblood/html. The goal of the drive is to increase participation and surpass the level of donations achieved last year, which stood at 500 units.
Chamber Singers performThe University Chamber Singers will present a concert of "Music in Time of Conflict" as part of a community concert series at St. Andrew's Catholic Church at 923 Portland Ave. Free and open to the public, the program at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 16, features music by 20th-century composers such as Arvo Part and John Tavener. The highlight will be a complete performance of Randall Thompson's The Peaceable Kingdom. For more information, contact the Department of Music at x5-2828.
Bryant rememberedThe biology department invites members of the University community to attend the Howard Bryant Room Dedication Ceremony at 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, in Hubbell Auditorium of Hutchison Hall. A reception follows in Hutchison Hall 316. Bryant, a facilities manager who worked in the department for more than 40 years, died in September. The newly named Howard Bryant room, formerly the conference room, will include displays honoring Bryant's service to the department.
Up for a challenge?Runners and walkers are invited to join the University team competing in this year's Chase Corporate Challenge. The 3.5 mile- road race takes place Thursday, June 2, at 7 p.m. at Rochester Institute of Technology. Registrants must have been employed by the University for at least three months, with a minimum of a 25-hour work week. The $20 registration fee includes two T-shirts as well as post-race refreshments. Registration forms are available at the Fitness and Wellness Center at the Medical Center (G-5680) and online at www.jpmorganchasecc.com/registration.php?city_id=3. The deadline is Friday, May 13. Submit work orders onlineRoutine work order requests can now be submitted to University Facilities and Services online at www.facilities.rochester.edu. All emergency service requests should continue to be reported by calling x3-4567 at any time. The online feature allows routine work orders to be generated automatically and directed to the proper department for response. In addition, automatic e-mail notifications can be requested to track work order status.
