In Brief

Book sale returns

The Friends of the University Libraries will host its 33rd annual Friends Book Sale on Saturday and Sunday, August 27 and 28, on the River Campus. Admission is free with free parking available on University lots.

Located in the Great Hall on the second floor of Rush Rhees Library, the sale attracts donations and buyers from all around western New York. For members of the Friends, a group of avid library supporters, a special preview will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. before the official opening of the sale on Saturday.

Hours for the public are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Books can be taken home by the bag at deep reductions from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Proceeds from the sale go directly to the University Libraries and their collections. For more information, contact x5-4461.

Run the River 5K

Individuals and teams are invited to participate in Friends of Strong's fifth annual Rochester River Run 5K, held August 6 at the Genesee Junction Pavilion in Genesee Valley Park. Pledges collected by participants benefit patient housing for the organ transplant programs at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Registration will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The event begins at 9 a.m. for runners, followed immediately by those choosing to walk—a one-mile course has been added for those who prefer a shorter distance. T-shirts will be given to all participants, and prizes will be awarded to top finishers in numerous categories. Refreshments will follow.

For more information or to register, call x5-2420. Registration forms are available online at www.stronghealth.com/about/fos/walk.cfm.

Fair matches students, employers

The Career Center will hold its annual Job Fair on Monday, August 29. Sponsored by the center's student employment office, the fair gives University employers the opportunity to meet potential student employees and introduces new students to the diversity of employment and volunteer opportunities available. Look for an e-mail update in July for more information on how to reserve a space for Job Fair 2005 or call x5-2138.
