Lewis, Buehler to head ITS in interim

David Lewis, Information Technology Services (ITS) associate chief information officer and director of networking and communications services, has been appointed interim chief information officer. Additionally, Julie Buehler ’97S (MBA), director of ITS finance and administration, has been named interim cochief information officer.

Their interim appointments come as Vice Provost and Chief Information Officer Amelia Tynan assumes the post of vice president for information technology and chief information officer at Tufts University this fall.

“Mely Tynan has done a magnificent job as the University’s first CIO,” says Provost Charles Phelps. “We’re very grateful to her for the significant advancements in IT infrastructure and programs here during her tenure, and we expect to keep up the pace in terms of moving forward on various initiatives.

“I am also grateful to Dave Lewis and Julie Buehler, both members of Mely’s senior team, for assuming the interim leadership,” says Phelps, who will be forming a committee to advise on the search for Tynan’s permanent successor.

Director of the networking and communications services division, Lewis joined the University in 1997 from the University of Michigan, where he was assistant director of telecommunications and networking. He earned his bachelor’s and M.B.A. degrees from Eastern Michigan University.

Buehler, who oversees ITS budget and finance strategies, compliance activities, human resource administration, and project management, joined the University in 1989. A New York State–certified public accountant, she holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University College at Geneseo and an M.B.A. from the Simon School.

“I have truly enjoyed my work with colleagues at the University, and I’ve appreciated the strong support of Provost Phelps,” says Tynan, who was named the University’s first chief information officer in 1999. “I know that Julie and Dave will be wonderful leaders in their interim positions. I applaud ITS for the many accomplishments and know that the staff will continue the momentum. While I will miss many friends and the opportunity for further work with President Seligman, I am confident that ITS will be part of the new administration’s success.”
