LEADING THE WAY—President Seligman makes his way out of Eastman Theatre following the inaugural ceremony on October 23. Accompanying him are University Marshal and Professor Emeritus of History Jesse Moore; Seligman's wife, Friederike Seligman; and Board of Trustees Chairman G. Robert Witmer Jr. '59. The ceremony was attended by hundreds, including former presidents Robert Sproull, Dennis O'Brien, and Thomas Jackson, and marked the 10th time in its 155-year history that the University has inaugurated a president. In his address, Seligman said, "We are one University, powerfully bound by values that are responsible for this and other Universities being among the most significant social institutions in the world today."
