Dear Students,

Let me extend my warm greetings to each of you as you prepare for the upcoming academic year. The summer has been one of great activity, and I look forward to the return of our students and faculty.

I have already begun a listening tour around the campuses to learn as much as I can about the University’s exceptional programs. I invite you to join me at "town hall meetings" that will be held so I can hear more about your vision for the University.

On Saturday, August 27, freshmen, faculty, and staff will celebrate Wilson Day 2005, the annual College tradition that exemplifies the University’s dedication to service. I look forward to working alongside students who are so willing to get involved and make a difference in the local community.

On September 9, the College will celebrate the beginning of the academic year and present Goergen Awards for exemplary teaching that is the essence of a university education.

You may also want to participate in Meliora Weekend, October 21 to 23, an outstanding series of presentations and entertainment. Some of the symposia and activities will address diversity, an increasingly important concept in our competitive multicultural world.

As you return to campus, I urge you to aim high. It is a motto that I hope guides all of us in our unremitting effort to make a great University even stronger.

Best regards,

Joel Seligman signature
