Improved services link students to city
Getting to that restaurant or gallery has never been easier with new RTS bus routes. Several additions planned this fall include evening and weekend service to the South Wedge neighborhood via the Red Line (Route 72) and a new Wegmans stop on the Greece Ridge Green Line. Students living, working, or volunteering in the 19th Ward neighborhood just across the river will benefit from direct shuttle access as a result of changes in Route 12. The Rochester Every Day (RED) program has expanded. Beginning in the fall, nearly 200 local businesses will offer discounts to undergraduates who have a RED sticker on their University ID. A new interactive Web site, with information about participating businesses, better maps and directions, and a feature that allows students to rate their favorite restaurants and stores, will be completed in early August. In September, the Students' Association and Wilson Commons Student Activities will begin providing a limited number of free local and national newspapers in high-traffic student areas. The program, intended to expand students' knowledge and engagement in local and national affairs, is an initiative sponsored by the Students' Association Senate. Fashionably Late, the late-night activities series that offers discounted or free Friday and Saturday evening entertainment, is preparing for another year of programming, including on- and off-campus athletic events, seasonal outings like haunted hay rides, and performances featuring student groups. Information about events and services is available at the Common Connection on the second floor of Wilson Commons (formerly the Wilson Commons Information Center). In addition to providing bus schedules, maps, and other printed resources, student staff are available to offer restaurant suggestions, ideas for entertaining visiting friends and family, and additional information about bus service.
