New options for advanced study

Get two degrees in five years

The Department of Physics and Astronomy now offers a special 3/2 bachelor's/master's degree program for undergraduates with an emphasis on medical physics. Qualified undergraduates can earn both degrees in five years and study the use of technologies developed in the subfields of medical and biological physics. For more information, contact the Undergraduate Studies Office at (585) 275-6679.

Nursing's new alternatives

The School of Nursing is offering a new master's degree designed to prepare graduates to take leadership roles in public or private health care organizations. Students can focus on health promotion, education, and technology, or they can study disaster response and emergency preparedness. Course work covers public health policy, population research, economics, global public health, and more.

The School of Nursing also offers two accelerated programs designed for people who hold a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field. Participants can earn a bachelor's degree in nursing in just one year, or earn a master's degree in nursing and become a nurse practitioner in just three years. For more details, call (585) 275-2375 or visit www.urmc.rochester.edu/son.

Program targets future teachers

Undergraduates who are considering a career in teaching may want to apply for the Fifth Year in Teaching Scholarship program that provides a limited number of full-tuition awards in exchange for a commitment to teach in urban schools for at least two years. As part of the program, students complete a master's degree through the Warner School's Urban Teaching and Leadership Program and participate in seminars and professional development with practicing teachers and school administrators.
