NEW MATH--A research team that includes Eldred Chimowitz (left), professor of chemical engineering, and Yonathan Shapir, professor of physics and of chemical engineering, has created a mathematical model of how matter behaves during the process known as phase change--the point at which matter changes from one state to another. The complex calculation is one that has eluded scientists for decades and that may have a wide range of practical applications.(see story)
